Our Goal

At Ocean Whispers, we develop bioacoustics research and promote scientific disclosure in order to make a great difference in conservation and to engage people in protecting the ocean/environment.

Our Mission

Research Development through the Bioacoustics field.

Ocean Whispers is gathering/analyzing data for acoustic characterization research to better understand the marine mammal populations worldwide.

Development of Automated detection/localization - the research findings can be used for tracking species of interest for conservation purposes.

Research Development to improve local guidelines regulations for monitoring marine mammals worldwide.

Promote scientific disclosure to the public.

 Daiane Anzolin

Dai is a biologist with MSc. in Animal Biology at UFPE/ Brazil with emphasis in contaminants and animal behavior of marine manatee in 2012.

During the graduation she worked with different species of cetaceans, like bottlenose dolphin, Franciscana and humpback whale. Dai was introduced to the oil and gas field in 2011 and since then she achieved many projects working as marine mammal observer and passive acoustic monitoring operator.

She combined her passion for animal behavior and bioacoustics, specially pulsed sound of marine mammals, to focus in better understand how this amazing mammals communicate in the marine environment

 Juliana Moron

Ju is a biologist with MSc. in Ecology and Natural Resources Conservation at UFJF/ Brazil with emphasis in bioacoustics and animal behavior in 2015.

During the graduation she worked with Bioethics, International Environmental Law and Animal Behavior, always with a focus on marine environment. Ju started to work with dolphins on 2009 at Projeto Golfinho Rotador, where she stayed and collaborated until 2012. She began to work offshore on 2014 as a marine mammal observer in research projects, since 2016 as passive acoustic monitoring operator in the oil and gas field and since 2021 in wind farms too.

She's fascinated with wildlife biology, behavioral ecology and bioacoustics. Focused on the ontogeny of communication sounds in offshore dolphins.

 Leonardo Versiani

Leo is a biologist with MSc. in Marine Biotechnology at UFF/IEAPM – Brazilian Navy with emphasis in bioacoustics and analysis of marine mammals sounds in 2019.

Since 2010 Leo has worked on offshore projects globally in the Oil & Gas Industry and Marine Research Projects. He developed a good understanding of passive acoustics which has enabled him to work with different platforms in acoustic data collection, processing, and analysis of marine mammal sounds.

Prior to study biology and marine mammals, Leo always had a passion for play and produce music. With his knowledge both in music and biological sounds, he strives to combine those skills to promote the ocean and animal conservation.

What is Ocean Whispers?

Ocean Whispers is a group of friends/scientists with expertise in acoustics, signal processing, and biology who share a great affinity for marine mammals and the environment.

Our goal is to advance bioacoustics research and promote scientific disclosure to make a major contribution to conservation and to inspire people to protect the environment.

We want to make as much of an impact as possible. Our research focuses on marine mammal communication and local guidelines for monitoring marine mammal populations worldwide.
